The Houston Rockets are completely focused on their pursuit of Carmelo Anthony, and don’t believe they have a legitimate shot, according to several different reporters.
Sense I’m getting is Houston is fully focused on Melo front & merely on outskirts of LeBron chase as much as they’d like to be factor there
— Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) July 4, 2014
Stein wasn’t the only member of the media with this thought. Sam Amick (USA Today) shared his thoughts on the Rockets and James.
The Rockets, it should be noted, are known to be laser-focused on the prospect of landing fellow free agent Carmelo Anthony at the moment. A person with knowledge of Houston’s thinking expressed very little confidence that the Rockets were legitimately being considered. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the private nature of the situation.
Adrian Wojnarowski (Yahoo Sports) also added this note:
The three consecutive tweets and stories are a bit interesting. Stein’s tweet was at 10:12 PM CT, Amick’s story at 10:13 PM CT and Wojnarowski’s story also at 10:13 PM CT. Usually it’s one writer that breaks the news and the others follow.
What does this mean? I’m not sure. It could mean the Rockets front office fed the reporters this story in hopes of trying to convince Anthony that they really want him and he’s their number one guy.
It could also mean the Rockets simply don’t believe they’ll land James.
No one really knows what James is thinking, and something tells me we should Anthony’s answer by the end of this weekend, and James’ answer by the end of next week.
Until then, stick with House of Houston for all the latest on the Rockets’ offseason.
