Deng, 29 was traded in the middle of last season from the Chicago Bulls to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Luol Deng was traded from the Bulls to the Cavs in an effort to create salary cap flexibility for the Bulls.
Chicago Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau was not happy with the Deng trade. The Chicago Bulls and the Luol Deng party were unable to come to an agreement to extend his contract, which led to eventually exit of Deng.
The two time All-star is best known for his defensive skills and consistency. The Houston Rockets have expressed interest in Deng, and it looks like they are still in running for his services.
NBA experts believed that Deng would be open to taking a pay cut to join the Miami Heat. Luol Deng was on the top of the Heat’s free agent list outside of their own big three, but it looks like the Heat will have to look elsewhere for a supporting cast for LeBron James.
Luol Deng carries a career average of 16 ppg, 6.3 rpg, and 2.5 apg. He is exactly the kind of wing defensive minded player the Houston Rockets need.
The Rockets struggle on defense last year especially on the perimeter. Deng would be able to take the toughest defensive assignments for the Rockets on a nightly basis.
With the uncertainty of the future of Chandler Parsons, Deng would be an excellent replacement.
With that being said, the Rockets will wait on the decision of Carmelo Anthony before making an offer to Luol Deng.
Free agency has just begun and there is a lot already going on.
