The Houston Rockets are interested in PF/C Pau Gasol according to Jonathan Feigen (Houston Chronicle) and Ramona Shelburne (ESPN).
The Rockets also have interest in another former target heading into free agency, though there will be a long line of suitors for Pau Gasol. The Rockets could make a play for former Rockets forward Jordan Hill.
Gasol has long been a target of GM Daryl Morey and the Houston Rockets. He had another great season with the Los Angeles Lakers, averaging 17.4 ppg and 9.7 rebounds per game in 60 games for the Lakers last season.
Gasol isn’t the same player he was three years ago, but he is still considered a good power forward. He would fit in fine next to Dwight Howard, as he has the ability to hit jumpers, though can also score in the post.
The 33-year old (34 on July 6th) would also be good insurance for Howard. Gasol can start at center if Howard were to miss a game, and can also provide quality minutes at the five if Howard simply needs a rest during a game.
The Rockets are one of the many suitors that will call Gasol, but he may have to wait for the bigger dominoes in free agency to fall before he gets his best offer.
Free agency starts June 30th, 11:01 PM CT.
