Houston Rockets Make Troy Daniels A Restricted Free Agent

The Houston Rockets have given Troy Daniels the “Chandler Parsons treatment” and have made him a restricted free agent for this summer according to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.

Daniels, 22, averaged 8.4 points per game, in five games towards the end of the regular season. He shot 48% from beyond the arc, something the Rockets could certainly use of the bench this upcoming season. Daniels shot 8/15 (53.3 percent) from beyond the arc during the playoffs, including a clutch three pointer giving the Rockets one of their two wins this postseason.

By making Daniels an RFA, it will save the team $300,000 in current cap space. There’s likely some sort of deal in place between the Rockets and Daniels to ensure he comes back next season.

Daniels could be an important role player off the bench next season and the Rockets would be foolish not to keep him around. He’s expected to get a slight raise from the $816,482 he was supposed to earn this coming season.

This is just another move to clear up space to fit potential free agents within the Rockets’ cap.

July 1st, here we come!
