The Houston Rockets exchanged cash with the Minnesota Timberwolves for Italian Alessandro Gentile.
The 6’6″, 200 lbs wing player played last year in Italy. Alessandro Gentile averaged 12 ppg, 4 rpg and 3 apg while shooting 39% from the three last season.
Gentile has been a productive scorer on the European scene since he was a teenager. He lead the 2010 FIBA U18 in scoring, ahead of notable players like Alex Len and Jonas Valanciunas.
He has good size for a wing player as well as great strength. He does lack lateral quickness and the NBA athleticism, however, he has proven himself to be a scorer at the highest level of competition outside of the NBA.
Alessandro Gentile has great confidence and can play on and off the ball as he is more than just a shooter. He is very crafty with the ball and able to find ways to score. He does have the ability to catch fire from the perimeter making him unstoppable when hot.
Gentile will most likely stay overseas for a few years as the Rockets will stash another young talent abroad.
I believe the Houston Rockets have had a strong draft, accomplishing the goal of not allowing their salary cap space to be affected, but also drafting high quality players. I think Alessandro Gentile and Capela will stay overseas and Nick Johnson will try to compete for a spot on the Rocket’s roster, during training camp.
