So the world’s best player is now an unrestricted free agent, free to sign with any team he chooses.
Of course, you still can’t eliminate the possibility of re-signing in Miami. By opting out of his current contract he is forcing Pat Riley to prove that he could improve the roster around him. Dwyane Wade is far from the player he used to be and the Heat need much better depth than they have right now.
The Houston Rockets will pursue LeBron James but will have to make the necessary moves to clear salary cap space for “the King”. Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik are likely to be traded to make the room, as well as a few other parts.
Other teams such as the Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Clippers, and others will be mentioned as potential “favorites” to land James, but it’s really likely between a handful of teams, with the Rockets included.
James’ teammates, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, still have until June 30th to officially decide on their future.
