First overall pick, Jadeveon Clowney was a no show at voluntary OTA’s yesterday and we finally have an answer why. Bill O’Brien told the Houston media that Jadeveon Clowney underwent sports hernia surgery in Philadelphia.
#Texans No. 1 pick Jadeveon Clowney had sports hernia surgery. Should be ready for training camp. Had issues in groin area.

Clowney is expected to make a full recovery for training camp.
It’s not an ideal start for Clowney as he tries to learn the new defense. Clowney is transitioning to 3-4 OLB and has to be ready to play other positions as well. O’Brien and Crennel are happy with how “studious” Clowney has been this offseason, but missing these next minicamps is an unfortunate setback.
In any case, it’s better to have Clowney healthy and ready to go by August, then risk further injury later in the offseason, preseason, or during the regular season.
Let’s hope Clowney can have a full recovery as he gets ready for his rookie season.
