Houston Astros Select Derek Fisher At #37

With the 37th pick in the 2014 MLB draft the Houston Astros select:


Derek Fisher, OF, University of Virginia


Derek Fisher is a left-handed hitting outfielder out of the University of Virginia. He stands 6-3 and 210 lbs. Scouts say he has all the making of middle of the order bat. In the Cape Cod league he hit .333 with 13 SB in 36 games.

Derek Fisher uses the entire field and is a very advanced hitter. He possesses plus raw potential power to all fields but it had yet to filly develop. Although Fisher is not a big time base stealer he does have some speed. In his college career, Derek Fisher, had a .288 BA with a .379 OBP and 117 RBI in 145 career games.

On March 17th, 2014, Fisher had surgery to remove a hamate bone in his right hand. This caused Fisher to miss 25 games of the 2014 season. At this point he is kind of an unknown quantity but has alot of potential to be an impact hitter in the MLB.
