Marc J. Spears (Yahoo Sports) says the Houston Rockets are interested in Tyrone Corbin for their assistant coach opening.

Corbin last coached the Utah Jazz the last few seasons, before not getting his contract extended after this past season.

Corbin is heading for an interview with the Sacramento Kings for an assistant coach, though has yet to receive any interest for a head coaching job. Corbin was an assistant coach for Jerry Sloan before becoming head coach of the Utah Jazz.

Though he struggled last season, Corbin is known for his close relationships with players and being an ultimate professional. The Rockets are looking for someone to replace Kelvin Sampson, who was known for having close relationships with several Rockets players. When Sampson was announced as the head coach of the U of H Cougars, Sampson was greeted by several Rockets players who attended the press conference.

Corbin is one of several former head coaches the Rockets will look to replace Sampson. The Rockets also have interest in Lionel Hollins to be the team’s lead assistant.
