Jadaveon Clowney, welcome to the Houston Texans!
The Bayou City has just welcomed its newest, famous resident with open arms.
It has been more 36 hours and we finally know what our beloved franchise decided to do with the No. 1 pick. With all of the rumors that were circulating in regard to what they planned to do with it, it turned out that they actually used it — on South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney.
Let me tell you, that I’m thrilled to have Clowney here in H-Town. He will represent this team well — he will be as fierce and as mighty as can be alongside the front seven.
Although it remains to be seen the extent of him being placed on the other side of J.J. Watt, I know that Romeo Crennel will employ a myriad of schemes to throw some the league’s most precise offenses off-track. After all, it’s the job that he has been hired to do.
Clowney is one of those defensive talents that comes by once in a lifetime, a blue moon…a googolplex.
The chatter amongst close sports circles about his work ethic doesn’t bother me. Although he would never admit it himself, Clowney turned it down a notch because he knew he was ready for the next level — he didn’t want to jeopardize his career, he wanted to lend his family a helping hand.
He did just enough to radiate attention. And attention he received.
In 2012, Clowney had 54 tackles and 13 sacks versus last season’s stark drop in performance to 41 tackles and three sacks Although his tackles are close to on par with last season, his sacks dropped close to 75 percent. It got people talking again and wondering if he was the man that the hype pumped him up to be.The conversation will continue throughout the offseason until he steps out on the field for the first time at NRG Stadium in September. He will then have an opportunity to make it count and squash any hearsay about his lack of drive that has been said about him.
J.J. Watt‘s attitude about coming to work and giving it his all is infectious — Clowney will sop it up like a buttered-up, fluffy biscuit in some hot gravy! He will not disappoint and we will love him for it!
Welcome to Houston No. 90!
