With the first overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Houston Texans select Jadeveon Clowney.
After months of speculation and rumors, it is finally all over. The Texans get a once-in-a-generation pass rusher, who will combine with J.J. Watt to form arguably the toughest defensive line in the National Football League.
The Texans are said not to be worried about Clowney’s work ethic or scheme fit. Watt and his teammates will certainly be there to push Clowney, and DC Romeo Crennel will make sure to get Clowney on the field for as many plays as possible.
The pick is official but the Texans could still opt to deal Clowney. The Atlanta Falcons were reportedly interested in the first overall pick, and there was some talk the Texans could deal Clowney during the draft, though most see that as unlikely.
Just because the Texans made their first overall pick, it doesn’t mean they are done for the rest of the night. Adam Schefter reported earlier today that the Texans have expressed interest in trading their second rounder, and they could be looking into jumping to the 20′s. There’s also talk of the Texans making a trade for Ryan Mallett, something we may hear more details about as the night continues.
