San Antonio’s R.C. Buford took home the Executive of the Year award for this past season.
Rockets GM Daryl Morey surprisingly finished tied for 9th place in this year’s voting. Rounding out the top five were Ryan McDonough (PHX), Neil Olshey (POR), Masai Ujiri (TOR), and Pat Riley (MIA).
Many will say Morey was “snubbed” from the award, though it’s hard to argue he should have won. He did have the best signing of the offseason, luring Dwight Howard to Houston, even with the Los Angeles Lakers being able to offer $30 million more. However, Morey’s other offseason acquisitions did not work out.
Francisco Garcia, Omri Casspi, acquiring Jordan Hamilton mid-season, all seemed like solid depth moves at the time, but none of them saw any meaningful minutes in the playoffs. The Rockets finished the season as the Western Conference’s 4th seed, but that wasn’t enough to give Morey the love he may have deserved.
You could argue that Morey deserved to be in the top-five of voting, but apparently Pat Riley and Sam Presti are still getting love for simply having great players they’ve had for quite some time.

Well Daryl, acquire another superstar for the third straight offseason and then you may get the love you deserve.
