James Harden Finishes 5th In MVP Voting

The NBA made it official today and announced that Kevin Durant has won the 2013-2014 regular season MVP. LeBron James, Blake Griffin, Joakim Noah, and James Harden round out the top five.

Here’s the final tally:

1. Kevin Durant – 1,232 (119 of possible 125 first place votes)
2. LeBron James – 891 (Remaining 6 first place votes)
3. Blake Griffin – 434
4. Joakim Noah – 322
5. James Harden – 82

As a 24-year old, Harden finished the regular season averaging 25.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 6.1 assists in 73 games this season. He shot 45.6 percent from the field, and 36.6 percent from beyond the arc.

Harden averaged 26.8 points per game in the postseason, but shot just 37.6 percent from the field and 29.6 percent from beyond the arc, drawing much criticism for coming up short in the series.

Rounding out the top 10 were Stephen Curry, Chris Paul, Al Jefferson, Paul George LaMarcus Aldridge. Here’s the rest of the breakdown:

Dwight Howard was absent from all ballots. There were 17 different players that received votes (from 1-5). Harden himself finished with 7 3rd place votes, 10 4th place votes, and 20 5th place votes.
