Carmelo Anthony will have a long summer ahead of him. Plenty of teams will try and recruit the All-Star, in hopes of him leaving the Big Apple. Oscar Robertson told Spike Lee on Lee’s radio show on SiriusXM NBA Radio that Anthony should bounce from New York and sign with the Rockets.
Robertson told Lee that “Melo” would push the Rockets over-the-top.
If he goes to Houston, they’re gonna win everything.“Melo would have a huge impact on Houston. If he goes to Houston, they’re gonna win everything. You look at LeBron [James], LeBron’s got a great game and the kid down at Oklahoma, [Kevin] Durant’s got a great game – they can’t out-shoot Carmelo.’’
A combination of James Harden, Dwight Howard, and Carmelo Anthony would certainly push the Rockets amongst the elite in the Western Conference. We have already seen the offense stall in the first two games of the playoffs, and adding a player of Anthony’s caliber would give the Rockets another elite offensive option.
Robertson believes the criticism in New York is not deserved and getting out of New York would be the best for him.
“I would leave today. Let me tell you why: Wherever that kid has gone, when he was at Denver, they had a team that fooled around with the ball, then all of a sudden when they needed a basket, threw it to Carmelo. Then, when he shot the ball, they said he shot too much. Then when he didn’t shoot they said he didn’t shoot enough. No matter what he does in New York they’re going to criticize him, the people are going to criticize him, because you got guys on that team (the Knicks) that cannot play. You got guys that are hurt all the time.’’
Daryl Morey has never been shy about talking about a potential “Big Three” in Houston, and this could certainly be his chance. The Rockets would have to clear up some space to bring in Anthony, but adding the All-Star would certainly be a plus for the Rockets.
