George Springer Called Up To Astros

The time has come.  The Astros 2011 first round draft pick and stud outfield, George Springer, will be called up to the Houston Astros tomorrow according to reports from multiple writers.

The Astros have been criticized by some for keeping Springer down in the minors, but that time is over.  This is most likely the most important call up the Astros have made since calling up Hunter Pence in 2007.  Astros fans have been wishing and waiting for Springer and it looks like they got their wish.  Do remember though, Springer is a rookie and will most likely struggle at times but he is definitely going to make the Astros more fun to watch.

Springer was drafted out of the University of Connecticut in the first round of the 2011 draft by the Astros.  Springer has done nothing but hit since joining the Astros Minor League system.

In 2012 Springer spent the season with Lancaster Jethawks (A+) and Corpus Christi Hooks (AA).  His numbers were:

2012 Stats: 123 G, .302 BA/.383 OBP/.526 SLG, 109 R, 21 2B, 10 3B, 24 HR, 87 RBI, 32 SB

In 2013 Springer started the season with Corpus (AA) and finished the season with the OKC Redhawks (AAA).  His numbers were:

2013 Stats: 135 G, .303 BA/.411 OBP/. 600 SLG, 106 R, 27 2B, 4 3B, 37 HR, 105 RBI, 45 SB

So far this season with the OKC Redhawks, Springer has hit .353 with 4 2B, 3 HR and 9 RBI.  Hopefully this will be the beginning of the transformation of our Houston Astros.  Springer is the first wave, but there will be more to follow.  Welcome to Houston George Springer and good luck!
