Bayou City Headlines: Houston Texans To Meet With Both Johnny Manziel And Blake Bortles

The Houston Texans have scheduled to meet with two potential draft picks in this year’s NFL Draft. Blake Bortles will visit Houston on April 15th and 16th, whereas Manziel will come to town April 21st and 22nd. You may have seen the Houston Rockets be joined by both Manziel and Jadeveon Clowney at times this year, and Bortles will have his chance April 14th when the Rockets face the Spurs in Houston. Manziel’s visit coincides with a potential Rockets playoff home game. No word on if either prospect plans on visiting Toyota Center. Check out the rest of the links for more in Houston sports.

Reliever Josh Zeid will be joining the Astros on their first road trip of the season. Zeid will be filling in for Matt Albers who is staying in Houston to be with his expectant wife, Tara.

But the Rockets wouldn’t have been in position to win without the hard labor of Omer Asik, who tied his career high in rebounds – set five days earlier – with 23. He also contributed 18 points, three blocked shots and three steals.

“Everybody was really quiet when (new head coach Bill O’Brien) walked in there,” said quarterback T.J. Yates. “But it was good. It was a lot like the first day of school. Everybody was really anxious. Everybody’s got a fresh start. Everybody’s a rookie right now. Everybody’s got brand new coaches, offense, defense. So everybody is really excited.”

The closer we get to the draft it seems that there are two ways the Texans are going to go about it. One scenario has the texans taking Bortles first overall and groom him for the future. I don’t think they feel it’s necessary to force a QB into the starting job right away. But since the Texans don’t feel there is much separation between the top three QB’s in the draft and the second tier of QB’s it leads me to believe the Texans will go with option two. Drafting Clowny first and taking a QB later in the draft.
Of course they could still trade down.
But unless they get a decent trade offer for the first pick I think they’ll take Clowny or Bortles. They don’t seem as high on Manziel or Bridgewater as those two.

You are correct on the scenarios. Clowney and Bortles seem like the two guys that are ahead of the others. Sure hope it’s Clowney.
