Jeff Dickerson of ESPN Chicago hits us with the latest Texans rumor.

The interest does make sense considering the Texans don’t really have any great options at quarterback right now. Matt Schaub is still on the team, but that may not last much longer. Case Keenum is around and could potentially start week 1, but that isn’t currently expected. There isn’t an unanimous number one worthy quarterback either.
McCown’s name is now being brought up after rumors of Matt Cassel signing in Houston (he has now moved on to Minnesota), Michael Vick potentially being an option (we will see), and Ryan Mallett being a trade option (which John McClain has vehemently denied).
Which brings us to the Josh McCown rumor. While the interest being there makes sense, NEITHER party should really be interested in a deal. Josh McCown is coming off a breakout year with the Chicago Bears. He has been a journeyman all his career until the offensive-guru Marc Trestman got his hands on the former clipboard holder.
Josh McCown amassed over 1,800 passing yards in 8 total games, including a sparkling 13/1 – TD/INT ratio. The 34-year old will be looking to cash in on his season and look for what is likely to be his last multi-year contract. The Texans shouldn’t be willing to deal out money to Josh McCown and he’s not likely to take a cheap one-year deal with the Texans.
To me, Josh McCown is simply a product of Trestman’s system and won’t be successful where ever he ends up. Let a team like the Oakland Raiders overpay for his services, rather than bringing in McCown to play and “mentor” whoever the Texans end up drafting. Bringing in McCown makes no sense for either party and you could pretty much scratch his name off the list.
