Breathe easy Houston, Texas. Matt Cassel agreed to a 2-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings per @NFLonFox. Since hearing of the Texans’ interest, I hadn’t heard of one person excited about the potential acquisition, and with good reason. Cassel lost his starting job in 2012 with the Chiefs, to Brady Quinn. A team that ultimately finished with the same record as the 2013 Texans. 2-14.

The question still remains, who will be the quarterback next year for the Houston Texans? Avoiding Cassel should be considered a small victory. The last thing this team needs is another washed-up veteran player to come in and attempt to fill a significant void. There are better options out there, should Rick Smith and Bill O’Brien want to take the free agent route, like Michael Vick. Earlier this week, Adrien Peterson tweeted Vick would make the Vikings a playoff team next year; a tweet he’s since deleted. Now that Cassel will be handing Adrian the ball, perhaps Vick can make the Texans a playoff team instead.
The Texans’ off season wishlist is lengthy, and checking off a box by landing Matt Cassel would have been a mistake. Rick and Bill, keep at it, and bring us in a guy who is capable of getting the job done. Matt Cassel isn’t that guy.
How is Twitter responding to this? Well let’s take a look shall we?
Bet many people are happy Cassel re-signed with Minnesota. That FA QB pool is super thin now.

Congrats to Matt Cassel re-signing with the Vikings, and in turn, congrats to @getnickwright for avoiding possible termination from his job!

In the words of Ricky Bobby, “Thank you, 8 lb. 3 oz. little baby Jesus!”
