The NBA trade deadline is February 20th at 2PM (CT) and the Houston Rockets will be mentioned many a times over the next two days. We have recapped the latest rumors several times now, and you can take a look (below) at what has changed and what new names have been mentioned in the last month or so. Check back later in the night for more updates as we will update this post with any other rumors that pop up tonight.
- 8:16 PM CT – Sam Amick (USA Today) seems to have good sources with the Rockets and around the league (he broke the Dwight Howard signing with the Rockets story), and his source told him that Omer Asik is unlikely to be dealt at the deadline. If Asik were to get dealt, Amick says the Milwaukee Bucks are a longshot option for Asik, with the Rockets likely coveting Ersan Ilyasova in a potential deal. Amick also mentions that the Rockets are interested in Mike Dunleavy, but it appears as if the Chicago Bulls are reluctant to trade away the veteran.
- 12:42 PM CT – Chad Ford (ESPN Insider) spoke with Bill Simmons (Grantland) on his podcast today and mentioned that the New York Knicks have interest in Jeremy Lin. Ford says the Knicks could offer both Iman Shumpert and Tim Hardaway Jr. though he’s not sure if the Rockets would take it.
- 11:41 AM CT – Ken Berger (CBS Sports) said the Rockets have renewed their efforts to trade Omer Asik, with the Philadelphia 76’ers emerging as a potential landing spot. Spencer Hawes interests the Rockets according to Berger, but it’s believed that both teams are asking for a first-round pick in return for their centers. The Atlanta Hawks were also mentioned as a possible destination, whereas Berger eliminates the Toronto Raptors and Brooklyn Nets as a potential trading partner.
- Yesterday – Marc J. Spears (Yahoo Sports) posted his power rankings and said the following for the Rockets. “While Houston would love to trade Omer Asik, a source said it won’t trade reserve Jeremy Lin due to the scoring value he brings.” An hour or two later, Spears changed the sentence saying almost the opposite of what he said earlier. “Houston would love to trade center Omer Asik, and a source said it is actively shopping Jeremy Lin as well.”
