Mock Drafts (some are a few weeks old)

  • Mel Kiper Jr. (ESPN) has the Texans taking Manziel.
  • Erik Galko (Optimum Scouting) has the Texans taking Clowney.
  • Josh Norris (Rotoworld) has the Texans taking Clowney.
  • Matt Miller (Bleacher Report) has the Texans taking Bridgewater.
  • Chris Burke (Sports Illustrated) has the Texans taking Bridgewater.
  • Dane Brugler (NFLDraftScout) has the Texans taking Bortles.
  • Rob Rang (NFLDraftScout) has the Texans taking Clowney.

Quarterback remains the logical starting point for new head coach Bill O’Brien but that doesn’t mean it is a guarantee he will go that route with the No. 1 pick. Some believe that seniors Zach Mettenberger, AJ McCarron and Jimmy Garrapolo are just as likely to emerge as NFL starters as the high-profile underclassmen and they could potentially be found in the second round or later. A more immediate impact could be felt with pairing Clowney – unquestionably the most gifted prospect in the draft – with superstar J.J. Watt.

Would rather have Barr than Clowney. Fits great into a 3-4. Think we can pick up a solid QB in 2nd rd or thru trade. Look at how important Def is from Seahawks game. However, for the Texans to do well, they can NOT miss on their QB, whoever it ends up being.

Interesting point. I agree with you about the QB in later round, but the Barr-Clowney debate is just based on personal opinion. While we agree on the draft philosophy, we just disagree on the player to take. I prefer Clowney over Barr, but I understand why you would prefer Barr.
