Houston Rockets Power Rankings Update Through Week 13

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Rockets went 2-2 for the week (last Monday-Sunday), beating the Trail Blazers and Kings while twice to the Grizzlies. This week’s average rank for these publications is 9.3 , while last week it was 8.3. Since these power rankings come out throughout the day on Monday, our national power rankings post will come out early Tuesday every week.

Note: National power rankings don’t take into account any of Monday’s NBA action

Houston had the West’s best record in January (8-2) until losing both of its weekend home-and-home games with the Grizz. They’re not the same Grizz any more with Marc Gasol back — as Dwight Howard will attest — but Memphis was 0-10 against the Southwest Division before that sweep.

When they win, it feels like a kid besting his friends at skateboarding. When they lose, it feels like they’re out-classed. Lot of growing up to do in Houston.

Francisco Garcia, who owns a player’s option for next season, has been dangled in trade talks lately, a source said.

Patrick Beverley made an immediate impact upon his return to the Rockets’ lineup. He was a plus-57 (no other Rocket was better than a plus-28) in wins over the Blazers and Kings early last week. But as Houston’s offense came up empty in back-to-back losses to the Grizzlies over the weekend (even with Chandler Parsons hitting 10 second-half threes on Friday), Beverley shot just 4-for-22.
This week: vs. SAS, @ DAL, vs. CLE

Daryl Morey says Omer Asik will not be traded. There is no better time to trade him.

Dwight Howard and Darryl Morey can blame whatever they wish for Howard not being an All-Star starter, we all know it is a symptom of what happened to his reputation. The way he fixes it is wins, playoff wins. A lot of them. Just as Kobe Bryant andLeBron James did.
