Preview: Houston Rockets vs/at Memphis Grizzlies

Yes, you read the title correctly. The Houston Rockets will face the Memphis Grizzlies tonight and tomorrow night in a home/road back-to-back “series” between the two teams. The Rockets are 2-0 against the Grizzlies this season, beating them by 8 in late December thanks to a surprise “to the rescue” performance by Donatas Motiejunas.

Because all Rockets fans like to complain about the scheduling folks in the NBA offices, I’ll point out that the Grizzlies haven’t played since Monday night whereas the Rockets played on Wednesday. The Grizzlies will be featuring three different starters since the last time these two teams squared off. Both tonight and tomorrow night’s game are at 8:00 PM and can be seen on CSN Houston.

The Matchups

Point Guard: Patrick Beverley  v.s. Mike Conley

Conley is averaging a healthy 18/6, but is coming off a 13-point, 4-15 shooting night against the Pelicans on Monday night.

Edge: Grizzlies

Shooting Guard: James Harden v.s. Courtney Lee

Lee wasn’t with the Grizzlies the last time these two teams squared off. With Harden’s no-defense policy, it wouldn’t shock me to see Lee drop at least 15 points in each game.

Edge: Rockets

Small Forward: Chandler Parsons v.s. Tayshaun Prince

Parsons is going to go off these next few games after being snubbed from Team-USA. Beware Mr. Prince.

Edge: Rockets

Power Forward: Terrence Jones v.s. Zach Randolph

I’ll guess again and assume Jones will be in the lineup, but just like you, I really have zero clue. Regardless, as Randolph showed against the Pelicans, hes capable of a 20/20 night at any time.

Edge: Grizzlies

Center: Dwight Howard v.s. Marc Gasol

The reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year against potentially this year’s NBA Defensive Player of the Year. Gasol isn’t 100% healthy yet, and is averaging 10.5 ppg and 5 rpg in four games since his return from a sprained MCL.

Edge: Rockets

Rockets – Jeremy LinOmri CasspiAaron Brooks, Donatas Motiejunas, Robert Covington

Grizzlies – Jon LeuerEd DavisMike MillerJerryd Bayless, James Johnson, Kosta Koufos, Nick Calathes

Edge: Even

Injured Players:

Grizzlies - Quincy Pondexter (Out), Tony Allen (Out).

Prediction - Rockets take the first one 101-90, lose the second one 103-89.
