Preview: Houston Rockets v.s. Sacramento Kings

The Houston Rockets had the day off to prepare for the 15-25 Sacramento Kings. The Kings are coming off a 17-point win last night against the Pelicans, with a 41-point performance coming from Rudy Gay. The Rockets are 0-2 against the Kings this season, losing a heartbreaker to them by 4 points on New Years Eve. Tonight’s game is at 7:00 PM and can be seen on CSN Houston.

Here’s a ReplyAll conversation between myself and Bryan from A Royal Pain, the Sacramento Kings FanSided site. This conversation was from the last time these two teams faced off, but much of the conversation is still relevant tonight.

The Matchups

Point Guard: Patrick Beverley v.s. Isaiah Thomas

Lin started in the last matchup and held Thomas to 17 points on 17 shots. Though Beverley is the better defender between the two Rockets guards, I expect Thomas to drop at least 20 points tonight.

Edge: Even

Shooting Guard: James Harden v.s. Marcus Thornton

Thornton is averaging just 7.4 ppg this season, but he’s shown the ability to score in bunches throughout his career. This matchup scares me with Harden’s lack of defense.

Edge: Rockets

Small Forward: Chandler Parsons v.s. Rudy Gay

In 20 games with the Kings, Gay is averaging 21 ppg on an incredible 52.5% from the field. Parsons is coming off a 31/10/7 line against the Trail Blazers. Should be a good matchup.

Edge: Even

Power Forward: Terrence Jones v.s. Jason Thompson

Jones is a game-time decision, but I’ll go ahead and pencil him into the starting lineup. Thompson is one of the easier PF’s to face in the game.

UPDATE: Jones is out. D-Mo likely to start.

Edge: Rockets - UPDATE – KINGS

Center: Dwight Howard v.s. DeMarcus Cousins

Cousins absolutely took over the in the 4th quarter of the previous Kings win over the Rockets. Howard is going to need to stay out of trouble and do much better than the 15/8 line he put up last time these two All-Star centers went at it.

Edge: Even
