The Houston Rockets went 3-1 for the week (last Monday-Sunday), beating the Celtics, Pelicans and Bucks while losing to the Thunder. This week’s average rank for these publications is 8.3, while last week it was 8.8. Since these power rankings come out throughout the day on Monday, our national power rankings post will come out early Tuesday every week.

Note: National power rankings don’t take into account any of Monday’s NBA action

He’s not going to score 36 points every time out, like we saw against Milwaukee, but the success of Terrence Jones has become a pretty handy barometer for which version of the Rockets we’re going to get. Houston is 16-3 when Jones scores 11 or more … and 10-10 when he doesn’t.

They’ve won some games. Chandler Parsons has been hurt. But the story so far is that they are a good team that doesn’t scare anyone. And for God’s sake, will James Harden go defend someone, anyone?

Yahoo Sports (Marc J. Spears)

Ranked – 8 | Last Week – 8

Terrence Jones has averaged 25.6 points and 10.6 rebounds over the past three games, including 36 points against Milwaukee on Saturday.

NBA.com (John Schuhmann)

Ranked – 8 | Last Week – 9

Houston (27-15)
Pace: 98.1 (8), OffRtg: 107.1 (4), DefRtg: 102.2 (10), NetRtg: +5.0 (7)
Thursday’s Jekyll-and-Hyde performance against the Thunder — in which the Rockets scored 73 points in the first half and 19 in the second – was one for the ages. But inconsistency has actually been a bigger issue on defense than on offense, so Patrick Beverley’s return (on Monday) from a 14-game absence is big. Houston has allowed less than a point per possession with Beverley on the floor.

Patrick Beverley is back to rob us of awkward Jeremy Lin-James Harden moments.

GM Daryl Morey told Sports Illustrated he thinks they have the first two pieces of a championship roster — James Harden and Dwight Howard — but lacks the No. 3 piece. Chandler Parsons is offended.
