Preview: Houston Rockets v.s. Portland Trail Blazers

The Houston Rockets are coming off a 10-point win against the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday night as they great ready to face the 31-9 Portland Trail Blazers. The Trail Blazers have remarkably had the same starting lineup for all 40 games this season, and we all know the Rockets have yet to play one game with their whole team intact. The Rockets are 1-1 against the Trail Blazers this season, with the Trail Blazers taking home the last victory in mid-December. Tonight’s game is at 7:00 PM and can be seen on TNT.

The Matchups

Point Guard: Patrick Beverley v.s. Damian Lillard

Beverley should be drawing the start after sitting out close to a month with his hand injury. He chose a good time to return, as the Rockets could use his defensive peskiness against Lillard.

Edge: Trail Blazers

Shooting Guard: James Harden v.s. Wesley Matthews

Matthews is having an excellent season for the Blazers, averaging 16.6 ppg on 43% shooting from beyond the arc. Not a great matchup for Harden.

Edge: Rockets

Small Forward: Chandler Parsons v.s. Nicolas Batum

Batum is averaging  a very solid line of 13.4/6.8/5.6 and close to a steal a game. Very useful player and glue guy for the “overachieving” Blazers.

Edge: Even

Power Forward: Terrence Jones v.s. LaMarcus Aldridge

Jones is coming off a MONSTER performance of 36 points and 11 rebounds against the Bucks. However, he goes up against arguably the league’s best PF in Aldridge. Jones is bothered by a thigh injury, and isn’t certain to dress tonight. The Rockets could really use a strong performance from Jones tonight.

Edge: Trail Blazers

Center: Dwight Howard v.s. Robin Lopez

Lopez is doing just about all the Blazers could expect, averaging just about 10 points and 8 rebounds on the season.
