Gentlemen, the hopes and dreams of an entire town are riding on your shoulders. You may never matter again in your life as much as you do right now.” – Coach Gary Gaines, Friday Night Lights
If you haven’t noticed by now, I’m a fan of movies, stand up comedy, Houston sports, and above everything else, I’m not a “hometown sports homer”.
I’ve never understood the whole, “homer” mentality. The fans that say, “I’m a diehard! I’ll watch this team no matter what, and never said a bad thing about my team!” Why wouldn’t anyone express how they feel about their sports team, especially if someone is doing something that is clearly not in the best interest of the franchise?
That’s like saying, “Yeah, my gf is totally cheating on me right now. It’s kinda of ridiculous how much she cheats… BUT, I love her! [shrugs shoulders] So we’re going to keep working on it!”
I will say, that I am a “Texas homer”, as in the state of Texas, not the college football team [to clarify, I am a Longhorns fan. Are you confused yet? Awesome. Because so am I!] I totally believe without a doubt, that this state is amazing, and it can do no wrong. I also believe, that we have the best football talent in the country.
I was invited out on Saturday to Blitz Football Camp in Spring. I got a chance to meet a ton of great people and athletes, watch some drills, and ask some questions.
This week I’ll be doing doing a series on Texas High School Football [I'll be honest this may trickle into the beginning of next week as well. Because, you know... I have to work as well.].
But before we get to that first official post. I made a video, to give you a little preview on what to expect.
