Last year, and by that I mean December 30th, 2013, the Texans signed six players to future contracts. One signee was free agent receiver Mike Thomas. Thomas, 26, was originally drafted in the 4th round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Thomas’ first three season with the Jaguars were pretty successful. He combined for 158 receptions and 1688 receiving yards in those three seasons, including a 66/820 campaign in 2010.

Thomas may be most well known for his game-winning touchdown catch against the Houston Texans. With just 3 seconds left and at midfield, David Garrard launched a hail mary pass into the endzone. Glover Quin knocked down the pass right into the hands of Thomas who took a step into the end zone, and handed the Texans the crushing loss.

In 2012, Thomas was traded to the Lions for a fifth round pick and played out the rest of the season, hauling in just 5 catches over 9 games. Thomas was cut by the Lions in 2013, signed by the Arizona Cardinals a few days later, then subsequently cut just 10 days later.

Here’s what Patrick D. Starr (State Of The Texans) had to say about the other five signees.
