Recap: Houston Rockets 106 – Sacramento Kings 110

When you talk about heart breakers, you can look back at this game. The Houston Rockets, after coming off of a harsh 8 games in 12 nights span, tried to bounce back with a win to start out the new year. Sadly, it didn’t happen.

The Sacramento Kings had it their way through the first half, but then all of a sudden starting falling a bit in the second half. Right out of the gates in the 2nd half, the Rockets started to show some life with Terrence Jones and James Harden starting to light up the scoreboard. James Harden realized that his team needed him to have a big game, especially with Rudy Gay on fire. James Harden had it his way tonight with arguably the best game of the season totaling 38 points going 12-26 from the field.

The only problem  was that in the 4th quarter, the Sacramento Kings came back to life and answered the Rockets winning the 4th quarter 30-20. Clutch plays were made down the stretch by DeMarcus Cousins, Isaiah Thomas, and Ben McLemore. With Harden having it his way for most of the night, he couldn’t seem to find his rhythm in the last minute of the game.

The Kings finished the game off with a 9-2 run and stole a game that the Rockets really needed. Hopefully, the Rockets can put this one behind and start the new year off strong with a bounce back win vs the New York Knicks on Friday. As young as both of these teams are, there is always room for improvement. The Rockets will now fall to 0-2 against the Kings this year and 21-13 overall.

Many Rockets players were upset after the game and they said interesting things following another tough loss to a “lower” opponent. Dwight Howard seemed to call out Lin, Harden, and Parsons with this quote:

Chandler Parsons had this to say:

Jeremy Lin chose to defend Harden after his strong effort on the offensive end.

So yeah, the Rockets are a bit of a mess right now, but I’m sure a nice New Years party together will straighten things out. Although this game didn’t turn out the way as planned, the Rockets will now have two days off to recover before facing the New York Knicks on Friday. You can catch that game at 7:00 PM on CSN Houston and NBA TV.
