Week 17 - Houston Texans vs. Tennessee Titans: Game Breakdown

The Houston Texans finished out their 2013 season with their 14th straight loss which came at the hands of the Tennessee Titans Sunday afternoon.  But not for lack of trying.

The Texans really had me thinking they were going to win that game… but only for a moment.  I don’t know why I was worried.  Soon after their first rather impressive drive, they were back to their old ways: no pass rush which allowed Chris Johnson to run it all over the field on us, zero offensive production, and turnovers galore.

I’m just glad none of our remaining starters got injured in that game.  Could you imagine?  What a waste that would’ve been.  Both teams played pretty abysmally.  Luckily, with the ball back and a chance to drive down field and win the game, the Texans’ had Mr. Matt Schaub at the helm.  And what did Schaub do?  In the words of Brian T. Smith of the Chronicle – he finished off the season the way he began it: with an interception to seal the loss.  What a fitting end.  The most hated man on the Houston Texans being the one to launch them to a form of post-season victory.  It was kind of epic if you think about it.  We all breathed a sigh of relief there.

And if I can take a quick aside here… please, people.  Stop coming at me with “our defense is fine, we don’t need to address it in the draft.”  When you have DE J. J. Watt making tackles in the secondary, when you have Peyton Manning (last week) literally calling his plays out loud on the line and you still can’t stop it… your defense is anything but fine.  Yeah, Watt and Manning are just that good, but that’s completely asinine.  But I digress because…

… WE’RE #1!  WE’RE #1!  That’s right, y’all.  The Texans have secured the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 draft and let the completely unbridled, totally irrational insanity commence!  With the Texans looking to lock up a new head coach by Tuesday (Bill O’Brien being the front-runner), the draft talks and predictions will only intensify.

I know it’s odd to say, but now that the season’s (finally) over, THIS is the time to get excited.  The world is our oyster.  I know it was rough getting here but now we have nothing but complete and total unknowns to look forward to and I’m okay with this.  Who will be included in the next coaching regime and will they turn us into the team we know we can be?  Will we draft a Quarterback with the no. 1 pick in the 2014 draft and, if so, which one?!  What players will be retained on the roster and which will be cut for cap space-saving purposes?  Will some of our injured starters recover quickly and retain their former glory?

I don’t have these answers, but it’s sure as hell gonna be fun watching it all unfold and bantering about it with the lot of you.
