The Texas Southern University men’s basketball team has not had that rememberable of a season so far. Losses against Miami University, Texas Tech, and Stanford were all blowouts, with TSU shooting a low percentage in each game.
On Wednesday night the Tigers shot 59% from the floor and held on to defeat Temple University 90-89
The Tigers’ Aaric Murray scored 48 points to set both the Liacouras Center record and the record for most points scored by an opposing player against Temple. Murray, a Philadelphia native and former La Salle standout, set the single-game high-scoring mark for Division I basketball this season.
Texas Southern jumped out to an early eight-point, 16-8 lead in the first five minutes, but it would be its largest lead of the half.
Murray shot 20 for 28 from the field and made some critical baskets down the stretch to help Texas Southern to a 4-7 record.
Next up for the Tigers are the Horn Frogs of Texas Christian University. The Horn Frogs are 6-3 in the Big 12 this season. More importantly for the Tigers is conference play begins after the TCU game, and with every team in the SWAC Conference with less then 5 wins it should make for some exciting conference play.
