Houston Texans Power Rankings Update Through Fourteen Weeks

After back-to-back weeks where every publication had the Texans last in their power rankings, one writer had them at 31. The average rank of the Texans for these publications this week is 31.86, whereas last week it was 32. Here are each major publication’s Texans ranking in their respective power rankings.

The Colts, Broncos and Titans could all be losses, which would give Houston the first overall pick in May. Imagine rotating J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney around the front seven? Yikes.

Tough times for the Houston Texans. We thought Gary Kubiak would have the opportunity to at least finish out the season, but it was not to be. Perhaps the ugliest part of the loss in Jacksonvillewas that Matt Schaub played just good enough to get his team beat. Obviously, Kubiak supported Schaub throughout, sometimes to the detriment of his own credibility with Houston fans.

The last two offensive plays of Kubiak’s tenure said it all. With just over two minutes left, his veteran quarterback had a clear window … and threw it right to the linebacker. After the Jaguarskicked a field goal, the Texans got the ball back … and Schaub was promptly sacked for an 18-yard loss. Game over, era over and season — essentially — over.

The Texans are up out of the basement despite an 11-game losing streak because they at least appear to be trying. Granted, that effort has resembled T-ballers trying to turn a 4-6-3 double play — and it led to Gary Kubiak’s firing — but it’s still effort.

They fired Gary Kubiak after their 11th consecutive loss last week to the Jaguars. Who could have imagined this season for the Texans?

I feel bad for Andre Johnson. He played a great game against Jacksonville. He plays great most weeks. He’s wasting a year of his prime.

For as poorly as the Texans have played, I believe they can upset the Colts this weekend.

What do you think of these rankings? Texans too high on some (HA)? Too low?
