Astros News And Notes: 11/15

Douglas Jones-USA TODAY Sports

With the offseason in full swing, I’ll try and recap the latest small tidbits of Astros information each week. The pieces of big news will receive it’s own articles but all small information will be recapped in Astros News and Notes on each Friday.

Yesterday was the final day of meetings in Florida, and the Astros were busy meeting with the Cardinals and Blue Jays according to Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle. How many trades were discussed? Zero. Instead, Jim Crane met with both teams to discuss a shared spring-training site in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Basically, we’re just going through budgets now. Palm Beach Gardens wants to come to some sort of resolution on the budget. So they’re submitting numbers, we’re putting in numbers and we’ll go back and sit down with them. There’s a lot of moving parts when you do those things. How the new stadium is funded, the bed taxes involved, the state money. Just got to make sure we’ve got enough money to do everything and everybody knows what their position is and who’s going to run the parks and that sort of thing. All that’s still being negotiated. … If we don’t get this deal done, it could have a serious impact on the Marlins and Cardinals because there’ll be nobody down there to play. So they’re much in favor of it. That’s why we were talking to them last night.

The Marlins and Cardinals currently share a site in Jupiter, Florida, whereas the Astros are  in Kissimee, Florida, and the Blue Jays in Dunedin, Florida. Click here for the rest of the article.
