Preview: Houston Rockets vs. Los Angeles Clippers

The Rockets will have another bite at the apple against the Los Angeles Clippers on their home court in the Toyota Center. The Clippers won the previous battle at Staples Center 137-118. Tonight’s game is at 7:00 PM and can be seen on CSN Houston or NBA TV.

The Matchups

Point Guard: Patrick Beverley v.s. Chris Paul

Paul had more than 10 assists in the first quarter alone the last time these two teams faced off. With Beverley back for the Rockets, Paul’s numbers will likely decrease, but he’s still the best point guard in the NBA.

Edge: Clippers

Shooting Guard: James Harden v.s. J.J. Redick

Redick killed the Rockets in their first matchup going for 26 points against Harden. Harden will have to attempt to play some defense tonight, unlike last matchup.

Edge: Rockets

Small Forward: Chandler Parsons v.s. Jared Dudley

Dudley is an underrated part of the Clipper’s offense and had 15 points against the Rockets earlier this season. Parsons had 14, but I’d still say he’s a better player overall.

Edge: Rockets

Power Forward: Dwight Howard v.s. Blake Griffin

Griffin’s +30 lead all Clippers last week and finished with 18 points on 8-13 shooting. It should be another great matchup tonight.

Edge: Rockets

Center: Omer Asik v.s. DeAndre Jordan

If the Clippers elect to “Hack-A-Dwight” against the Rockets, the Rockets may counter with a “Hack-A-Jordan” strategy. Jordan had a good game against Asik last week and will be expected to help on Harden drives.

Edge: Even

Bench (players that average over 8+minutes a game):

Clippers – Jamal CrawfordMatt BarnesDarren CollisonByron Mullens

Rockets – Francisco GarciaOmri CasspiAaron Brooks, Jeremy Lin

Both benches are above average, and capable of scoring in bunches.

Edge: Even

Prediction - With Beverley back this game should be a lot closer than last week. However, the Clippers will still give the Rockets fits and win 109-101.
