Dynamo Playoffs: Dynamo Come Back To Tie Red Bulls In First Leg

It was a rough first half for the boys in orange on Sunday afternoon. The Dynamo would give up two first half goals to the Red Bulls and it looked like it could be a long afternoon. After several adjustments at halftime, the Dynamo were able to put in two goals, including one in stoppage time, and give the Dynamo a 2-2 tie in their home game of the two-game playoffs.

It was Tim Cahill who started the scoring early for the Red Bulls. Cahill’s header in the 22nd minute gave the Red Bulls the early lead and the Red Bulls weren’t done. Later in the first half the Red Bulls would get out on a break and it was Eric Alexander who played Eric Brunner perfectly and set himself up for a nice goal to the right of Tally Hall. In the 42 minute of the match, Will Bruin found himself with a shot at goal but his shot went over the crossbar which put the Dynamo down 2-0 entering halftime.

It wasn’t long after the half when the Dynamo would get on the board. In the 51st minute it was Ricardo Clark who got the scoring started. In the 65th minute, things got interesting for the Dynamo. Jamison Olave was given a straight red card for a challenge on Omar Cummings. Olave would leave the game giving the Dynamo a 11-10 advantage for the last 25+ minutes of the match. The Dynamo would press the rest of the match and had plenty of chances to tie up the game, and they eventually would in stoppage time. A Brad Davis corner kick found the head of Bobby Boswell but Red Bulls goalie, Luis Robles, made a nice save. However, Robles wasn’t able to secure the ball and Omar Cummings was in the perfect place to knock in the rebound and give the Dynamo a 2-2 tie. The Dynamo would make one last push in stoppage time and nearly drew a penalty shot but the referees missed a clear penalty and would then call the game.

The Dynamo now head to New York to face the Red Bulls in the second left of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. The game will be at 7:00 PM and can be seen on CSN Houston.
