Gee that first half was ugly. The Rockets looked very sluggish coming off a win last night against the Mavericks. The Rockets only put up 16 points in the first quarter , 40 in the first half, and were down by 19 at some points in the game. A strong effort by Chandler Parsons on offense and Omer Asik on the defensive end put the Rockets back in the game in the second half, and the Rockets would go on to win the game 105-93.
It was Chandler Parsons who was the “Player Of The Game” for the Rockets. Parsons accumulated 20 points in the first half alone which was good for half the team’s points at the time. Parsons was 8-14 from the field including his first two 3-pointers of the season. Parsons would finish with 24 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 assists which were all team-highs tonight. Jeremy Lin was also a big factor in the second half and finished the game with 20 points on 7-13 shooting and added two 3-pointers as well. Lin’s +21 in 36 minutes was the highest for the Rockets on the night.
Dwight Howard and Omer Asik struggled with Utah’s bigs early but responded well in the second half. Enes Kanter finished with just 8 rebounds which seems like a miracle considering his first half. Howard and Asik both finished with 9 rebounds and 2 blocked shots each and their defense came up big in the Rockets comeback.
James Harden scored 23 points on 7-15 shooting (2-6 3PM) and 7-10 from the free throw line. Harden rolled his ankle while driving to the basket but finished the game playing in 43 minutes. Parsons also took a few falls and limped around the court at times but also was able to finish the game. Francisco Garcia‘s 12 bench points were also key in the comeback and he continues to be a big part of the Rockets success.
The Rockets head to Los Angeles to face the Clippers on Monday night at 9:30 PM. You can catch all the action on CSN Houston or NBA TV.
