The Houston Rockets have released guard/forward Reggie Williams, which puts the roster at 15 for their matchup with the Bobcats. This past weekend the Rockets also waived Marcus Camby and Troy Daniels.
Reggie Williams was used sparingly this preseason, appearing in just two preseason games and scoring 9 points on 3-9 shooting. Camby was expected to backup the Howard/Asik combo but suffered from a torn plantar fascia injury which will cause him to miss at least 2-3 months following surgery. Camby will consider remaining with the team to help out in different areas. Camby plans on rehabbing from his injury and hopes to play for the Rockets or another team this season. Troy Daniels was signed just a few weeks earlier before his release this weekend. Daniels did not see any playing with the Rockets in the preseason.
With the roster now at 15 players, let’s take a look at who made it.
Point Guard (4)
Shooting Guard (3)
Small Forward (3)
Power Forward (3)
Obviously many of these positions are not set in stone. The Rockets will likely feature a small-ball lineup as well as a big-boy lineup. They have the personnel to go with several different 5-man sets which could feature elite defense or elite shooting. Francisco Garcia, Omri Casspi, and Patrick Beverley (if he doesn’t start) are expected to be apart of the main every game rotation. The power forward position is still unclear and the Rockets have yet to announce who starts at PF on opening night. Isaiah Canaan and Robert Covington are expected to be sent to the D-League for most of the season. The Rockets have plenty of depth at both positions so both should remain with the Rio-Grande Vipers unless there is an injury.
The Rockets face the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday night at 7:00 PM.
