Texans Notes, Moves, And Injury Updates - 10/23

The Texans are now off the next few days because they’ve earned these days off with a great first seven games with no game this week. Texans management will be working on tweaking the roster and watching tape as they prepare for a big game week nine against the Colts.

The Texans now have five open roster spots to fill over the next week. On Sunday the Texans sent home three rookies for violating team rules. Cierre Wood, Sam Montgomery, and Willie Jefferson all had some sort of upside but the Texans kept strong to their beliefs and cut the rookies for their misbehavior. Yesterday, the Texans also cut LB Tim Dobbins. Dobbins was the special teams captain for the 2011 season and 2012 season and filled in for Brian Cushing after his injury last season. Dobbins started this season on a bad note when he missed OTA’s to renovate his home. Dobbins has been injured this season though his agent tweeted that he was 100% healthy following his release from the Texans. The Texans will have their fifth roster spot open once they officially place Brian Cushing on injured reserve.

At his latest press conference, Kubiak announced that Matt Schaub is still the starting quarterback. Kubiak said he will continue to evaluate the position after Case Keenum‘s performance against the Chiefs. The news isn’t so surprising and it doesn’t necessarily mean that Schaub will start week 9 against the Colts. Schaub may be #1 on the depth chart but Schaub’s injury can be used as an excuse to keep Keenum as the starting quarterback for the foreseeable future.

The Texans running backs are banged up but both expect to play against the Colts. Arian Foster‘s hamstring injury acted up against the Chiefs causing him to miss most of the game. Foster says he will continue to rehab and expects to be active against the Chiefs. Ben Tate has four broken ribs but also says he’ll play week 9. With Cierre Wood released, the Texans will likely sign a running back or two within the next few days.

The Texans have also worked out several players over the last few days. QB’s Jon Skelton, Pat White, and Austin Davis were present for the workout. WR’s Mike Thomas, DJ Stephens, Ramses Barden, and Joe Adams also worked out for the Texans. With five open roster spots, expect the Texans to fill all roster spots within the next few days with several linebackers and a running back.
