Texans Notes, Moves, And Injury Updates - 10/16

Kubiak again did not announce a starter for Sunday’s game against the Chiefs. Matt Schaub was unable to practice today and both T.J. Yates and Case Keenum split first team repetitions. Kubiak said Schaub is still “swollen, very sore,” and will have to speak to team doctors about his status for Sunday. Schaub said he has nothing broken in in his foot but their is some ligament damage. Kubiak said it’s possible the Texans don’t announce a starter until Sunday as they continue to evaluate Schaub’s injury.

Rick Dennison also spoke to the media and had nice things to say about Case Keenum saying he has “the gym-rat type of gene.” “He’s come a long way … He’s a bright kid and he’s worked very hard,” Dennison added. Schaub said, “He has a high football IQ and he can make all the throws,” and Andre Johnson added that Keenum has “an aura about him.” There are no hints as too which way the Texans plan on going for Sunday but it seems like they plan on giving Schaub as long as possible to possibly get ready for Sunday.

Also today, the Texans announced that they placed both Danieal Manning and A.J. Bouye on Injured Reservere, effectively ending both of their seasons. Earlier this week the Texans announced Manning would be out 6-10 weeks and I wrote about his loss yesterday. Bouye was one of the last Texans to make the team but he was relegated to special teams duty this season and was responsible for a few penalties this season.

With the two extra spots the Texans signed LB Mike Mohamed and DB Elbert Mack to the active roster. Mohamed was on the Texans practice squad and will likely be on special teams duty if active on game day. Mack was with the team during training camp and will also be a special teams player if active. The Texans signed Josh Victorian to fill Mohamed’s spot on the practice squad.
