DeAndre Hopkins Takes Home Rookie Of The Month Honors

Drafted 26th overall in this year’s NFL Draft, many expected DeAndre Hopkins to start opposite Andre Johnson by the time the season came around. Though Hopkins was slowed down by an injury in the preseason, Hopkins has been on the field for all four of the games this season. Hopkins has been a big part of the Texans offense and was recognized for his great month by the NFL. DeAndre Hopkins is your 2013 Offensive Rookie Of The Month for September!

Through his first four games this season, Hopkins has 20 catches on 29 targets for 270 yards and a score. In his first game against the Chargers, Hopkins had five catches for 66 yards. It may seem like a rather pedestrian line but Hopkins had arguably the biggest catch of the game diving for a ball on 3rd down that kept the Texans driving when they were down late in the game. Against the Titans, Hopkins came up huge again when Andre Johnson had to leave the game. Hopkins had several big catches in one-on-one situations including a game-winning three yard score in overtime.

Here are some quotes from Gary Kubiak and from Hopkins himself.

The Texans believe they got a steal at the 26th spot when they drafted Hopkins. Hopkins has been nothing short of excellent through four games and seems capable of taking over the reigns of the number one receiver when the time comes. For now, lets enjoy having two great wide receivers for the first time in franchise history.
