Rockets News And Notes

The Rockets season openers is just three days away. Here are some of the latest news and notes on the Rockets.

The Rockets have had their fair share of injuries in training camp. Dwight Howard sat out yesterday’s practice though reports are that he will be fine. Omer Asik has a strained calf and he’s listed as day-to-day. He will likely miss some time with the injury but will likely be okay for the start of the season. Greg Smith (hip) and Marcus Camby (plantar fasciitis) have yet to practice. Going away from the center position, Francisco Garcia is also out with a groin injury. Garcia is expected to rejoin practice later today or tomorrow.

Jeremy Lin changed his three point stroke this summer. According to Jonathan Feigen the new stroke is “smoother throughout the jump, rather than rushed at the top — should help get out of bad stretches more quickly.” Lin struggled from the 3-point line at the beginning of the season but actually improved dramatically as the season went on. Lin ended up shooting 40% from the 3-point line the last three months of the season. It’ll be interesting to see if his new stroke leads to an increase or decrease in last season’s 33.9% 3-point percentage.

In the most shocking news yet this offseason, Dwight Howard defeated James Harden in a free-throw contest. Dwight Howard shot 8-10 from the line to take the victory. How did he shoot so well? Well the contest was with both their eyes closed. Maybe Harden should stick to keeping his eyes open whereas Howard should seriously consider closing his eyes for free-throws.
