Bayou City Links And Tweets: September 4th

With football season just around the corner, Texans news is picking up quickly. The Texans open up on Monday and just yesterday announced a six-year extension for Brian Cushing. Here are my midweek Links and Tweets.

Houston Astros:

The Astros hadn’t had five affiliates qualify for the postseason since they had five, including the four full-season clubs, make it in 2006. The Astros are the first franchise in baseball to send six affiliates to the playoffs since the Pirates accomplished the feat in 2003.

  • Good news on the Jason Castro injury front says Mark Berman of Fox26:

First, let’s compare numbers. Chris Johnson is having a great year at the plate. Currently, he leads the National League in batting average at a very respectable .331. That’s .004 off of Mike Trout. Matt Dominguez’s average leaves a little to be desired. His 2013 batting average is .239. That’s .092 off of Johnson.

Houston Rockets:

  • Sam Amico of Fox Sports tweeted about Rockets interests in players:

Houston Texans:

  • Tania Ganguli of ESPN.com wrote about the relationship between Brain Cushing and J.J. Watt.
  • Check this video out of NFL Network’s thoughts on the Texans chances to make a Super Bowl run this season.

The future Hall of Fame safety, after 11 seasons in Baltimore, was signed to help put Houston over the top in the playoffs and add Super Bowl experience, and the goal remains the long-term with him.

13. Texans Kicking Game

We know what you are thinking, but the Texans have the best duo, in terms of skills, to take the field. Randy Bullock was the only kicker in Texans camp and that was by no mistake. Bullock has a strong leg and will help the special teams coverage because he can consistently put it out of the end zone for touch backs.
